DARKSIDE Shadowfields ROCK EXTREMUM / Slovakia Immortal The second album of this in our country, but mainly in Czech Republic very well known band was again recorded in the Sudio Past, but this time with the assistance of producer Vincent Dijkers. Soundwise the album can not be questioned, though. Real darkness and melancholy, the typical attributes of DARKSIDE, can be found in all the songs. The intro implores an atmosphere of grief and all the eight songs just play with your thoughts and depress your feelings. Darkside is a band outstanding on one hand for their melancholic and sad melodies and the brutality on the border of death and doom metal with strong emotive structures on the other hand. The same characteristics go for the whole album. Of course, also melody has its place, especially here the main place, because all songs are based on melancholic melodies from the beginning to the end. Melodic parts can be found in all forms from keyboard parts to guitar lines. The whole sound of the album is very hard and mainly the guys succeeded in isolating themselves totally from the rest of the scene. The outmark themselves with a big portion of brutality and their grief in the songs is so impressive, that there can't be any disagreement. Personally I wouldn't place this album above their debut, because it is very different, but for the future I recommend to the band to change the studio, because the sound misses the absolute use of the whole sound range. In every case the new album of DARKSIDE is prepared to go to the world market and do some good there. And one hint for the end : to judge this album, you should listen to it a lot of times because of its complexity....
