DARKSIDE Shadowfields Review by Klas Svensson for Conspiracy magazine 48 minutes of orchestral death metal popped up in my mailbox one rainy day. This band hails from the same country as a few wellknown underground black metal acts namely Austria, but this can't really be compared to those bands because this is much heavier and a lot more interesting if you ask me. I haven't heard anything about this band before but it seems like they have been playing with some bigger bands like Sinister and Six Feet Under throughout Europe the last year, and this is their second fullenght album. Ok what can be said ? I like this record in small dosis because it has a tendency to get bit boring in the longrun, but don't stop reading now boys and girls, it's just me. DARKSIDE's music is of a very interesting kind, they mix quite alot of different styles of music and have managed to make a blend of their own if you know what I mean ? The music is both atmospheric and brutal with a good flow, but sometimes it freaks out and it all becomes a madhouse, really cool ! Female vocals are used frequently in small doses and keyboard tunes is to be heard on a lot of places. I think they have managed to create an average album which shines through on some places. It could need a few more good riffs and some better vocals because they have a tendency to become boring, just gurgeling all the time eventhough they fit very well in some places. All in all a good average album who could use a few better ideas to become a sales comet. They could also have had a little better production, eventhough it not really bad in any way, just a bit too dark.
