DARKSIDE Melancholia Of A Dying World SPARK / Czech Republic Adriana Rapava How tastes the Melancholy of a dying world, we can find out on the album of this austro-czech band. It's clear that this will be nothing for feeing your minds. Already the sound of the whole album, mixed by Pavel Sonda and Vaclav Vlachy, lends to this Cd a dark, freezing atmosphere. The sound of the guitar like it would be calling up to you from the vault. One time it seems to be smooth, another time hard and deafening, accompanied with deep growls from the grave, done by Peter, guitarist and singer in civil life (...?) This guy takes you with his lyrics to places so depressive like the main musical themes of this Cd. For the working out of those moments, some of the songs are supported by the use of dramatic keyboards, during which sometimes smooth high voices reach your ears, bringing the kind of virginal innocense. The mere part of Melancholia Of A Dying World is in that kind of doom-gothic mood built on a death metal basis, and therefor don't let you take away by the first songs, who are plain death metal. What I really unwelcomed on this album, was the long, rolling passages and the throat-breaking english, chosen to express the lyrics, taking away a lot of beauty from this otherwise real picture of grief and aggressive nostalgy.
